The OICC is proud to present THE HIGH KINGS in concert!

Please join the Omaha Irish Cultural Center as we present the High Kings at the Orpheum Theatre! Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Martin Furey and Darren Holden are heirs to Irish folk music royalty.   Check out a review from Sean Hillen of World Itineraries:

The High Kings website also offers some insight into their magic on stage... "To say that The High Kings are charting a new course for Irish ballad music – equal parts rousing and reflective, energetic and insightful – is an understatement. They are, essentially, marking out a new and bright era for Irish folk music, and aiming to bring a broad demographic along for the journey. “With ‘Grace & Glory’ we’re going to achieve that,” affirms Martin. “There is something for everybody on the album, and any doubters out there might just discover there’s a whole lot more to us than perceptions would have them believe. Previous High Kings albums have been stepping-stones, but this one sees us on top of things."

Omaha Irish Cultural Center in the News!

One of our main goals is to get a permanent home for Irish culture in Omaha.  A building that can be a place not only for displaying the history of the Irish who settled in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, but a place where we can keep that culture alive and vibrant through music, song, literature and poetry, dance and language.  A place that not only helps us connect to the past, but also helps us forge a bright future.  The OICC was in the news talking about this project!  Check it out!

The Omaha Irish Cultural Center was founded on 30 September 2013.  Our mission is to enhance awareness and knowledge of Irish culture in our area and the impact the Irish have had on the development and history of Omaha, eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.  We accomplish our mission by hosting cultural events, offering educational classes and creating strategic partnerships with organizations and individuals in Ireland and the US.

Locally we will offer a variety of classes related to Irish culture.  These include music, Irish language and Irish dance classes.  One of the best ways to understand and learn about a culture is through art and language.  It tells so many wonderful stories about struggles, joyful events, beliefs, and history.

Cultural events are a way the general public can experience Irish culture in a fun and entertaining way.  These include musical events, readings by Irish authors, festivals celebrating Irish history and culture, art openings, and theater.  We hope to bring many such events to Omaha over the coming years.

We look forward to working with many groups and individuals to create additional opportunities and experiences.  We envision cohosting events with other groups, partnering with Irish organizations to bring Irish artists and musicians to Omaha, or working together with local organizations on cultural events.  These types of partnerships will enable us and our partners to offer more to Omaha, eastern Nebraska, and western Iowa than is possible alone.
