A Father & Son’s Impressions of the Troubles

“Look Behind You!” is a multi-media presentation by Belfast-born musician, academic and storyteller, Steafán Hanvey, which details how a father and son have negotiated the personal and political landscapes of Northern Ireland. A melding of image and voice, anecdote and memory, it showcases his father’s prize-winning photojournalism along with excerpts from his interviews with some of Northern Ireland’s best-known figures. These are contextualized by Hanvey’s storytelling, which comes in the form of critically acclaimed songwriting, and a trained academic’s gift for presenting complex issues in an engaging manner.  The event is sponsored by the UNO English Department and the Irish American Cultural Institute.  The event is FREE and open to the public.  Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 3:00 PM at UNO in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS) in Room 101.
